One of my favorite accessories has always been the leather travel/weekender duffle bag. Doubling as a classy work/gym bag on a daily basis adds a lot of extra utility and really helps justify the higher purchase price. Using it as a secondary bag to put on top of a roller bag while traveling on a longer trip is also a nice plus. I’ve included duffle bags from just under $500 to just under $10,000 in this list, so hopefully everyone can find something that fits within their price range. If you don’t have $500 to spend on a leather duffle bag, fear not, as many of these companies also make a canvas bag with leather accents for 30% – 50% less money, though I haven’t added any of those here. Without further ado:
Ralph Lauren Smooth Leather Duffle – $450
Notes: A classic leather duffle bag that hits all the requirements. This is a very dark brown, not sure why they didn’t just make it black, but this is a very solid choice at this price point and the brass looking hardware adds a nice touch without being too gaudy. Additional nice feature is the shoe zipper pocket at one end.

Bobbies Positano Weekender Bag – $620
Notes: Most of you probably won’t have heard of Bobbies, they are a Parisian shoe company that manufactures in Spain and Portugal. I love their driving shoes, so I’ve included their leather duffle because their price to quality is very high. I’m a huge fan of this distressed leather look specifically, but they do also sell a grained mid-brown and dark blue if the distressed look isn’t up your alley.

Korchmar Twain Leather Weekender – $695
Notes: Korchmar has been making leather goods in the U.S. since 1917. I’ve focused on their Tan leather duffle bag variant because I find it a great alternative to mid and dark browns. They do also make a Brown, Espresso, and Black variation if Tan is a bit too conspicuous for you. The Twain is a bit more rugged than the standard leather duffle, but I think it still fits most situations and I love how the ends of the top clip down to the bottom of the sides.

Brooks Brothers Leather Duffle Bag – $698
Notes: Everyone knows Brooks Brothers, but not everyone knows they make things other than “sack suits” and button down dress shirts. This is another classic dark brown leather duffle bag that checks all the boxes and will look great in any situation. (It’s also currently on sale for $488.60 as of this article).

Carl Friedrik Palissy Weekend Duffle – $895
Notes: This Carl Friedrik weekender bag is a more contemporary take on the classic weekender bag design and does it well. Their Cognac colored version is my favorite but also comes in Chocolate, Black and Navy. Its construction style allows it to stay upright even when not completely full, which is nice compared to most bags that somewhat collapse on themselves when empty. Their nickel-silver-finished hardware also adds some nice detailing to give the bag a more modern/sleek look.

Ralph Lauren Heritage Leather Duffle – $898
Notes: If you like the less expensive Ralph Lauren duffle bag but want something a bit bigger or a bit lighter brown than this is your answer. Another 2″ of length doesn’t sound like much, but it does add up to a decent amount of extra space, and the leather color is nicer than the less expensive option and will patina better most likely.

Moore & Giles Benedict Weekender Bag – $965
Notes: Moore & Giles is another under the radar company that specializes in wholesale leather sales to a variety of industries but decided to launch their own line of bags and accessories in 2007. The Benedict duffle bag is elegantly simple and the leather options look great. It comes in five other browns and a black if this shade/texture of brown isn’t your favorite.

Luca Faloni Weekender – $975
Notes: Luca Faloni stared out as a cashmere sweater company in Italy and has slowly expanded their lines and now sell leather goods and accessories. Known for their great price to quality, you don’t pay much for the brand, so all that’s left is quality product. You won’t find too many leather duffle bags made in Italy at this price, and they also sell a Chocolate Brown and Black version if you don’t like Caramel.

Shinola Canfield Classic Holdall – $995
Notes: Shinola is a Detroit-based company that started out making watches, but has since moved into multiple other accessories. This bag has a great classic shape and having another layer of leather at the bottom looks good and adds a nice bit of durability. The addition of multiple interior pockets is a nice added touch and the matte nickel zipper screams quality. It also comes in Black if you want a less aggressive color and the Black also features a solid Black shoulder strap instead of the Brown’s striped shoulder strap.

Ghurka Cavalier II No. 97 – $1,995
Notes: Ghurka was founded in 1975 by Marley Hodgson who was inspired by the Gurkha soldiers of the Himalayas’ regimental officer gear. These bags feature a classic rugged design that will fit in almost anywhere, feature a patterned twill interior which is a nice change from solid colors and is made in America. Other colors include: Chestnut, Black and Walnut.

Ghurka Cavalier III No. 98 – $2,295

Swaine Adeney Brigg Cambridge Weekender – $3,001
Notes: Swaine Adeney Brigg, now Swaine London, still abbreviated by most people as SAB, has been making leather products since 1750s when they made whips and saddles and transitioned into car luggage in the 1890s. Obviously one of the original leather companies, they maintain meticulous quality where each of their Cambridge bags is handmade by a single craftsmen in their UK workshop. Each bag has solid brass hardware and a steel frame top-opening system for ease of access.

Ralph Lauren Burnished Calfskin Voyager Duffel – $3,195
Notes: Another weekender bag from Ralph Lauren, this time from their Purple Label line which focuses more on classic design and higher quality materials and craftsmanship. We like the kind of hexagonal shape and the burnished leather (polishing/buffing to add texture) detailing to give added depth to the bag. The bag also features polished brass hardware with a palladium finish for a very nice silvery shine.

Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandoulière 50 – $3,450
Notes: If you’re reading this you probably already know Louis Vuitton’s history/heritage, and this is their weekender bag made of their trademarked Taiga leather, which is an ideal leather for heavier-wear items, so you know this bag will last if you throw it around a bit. Very classic design in all aspects, we always like the more subtle LV items and this fits the bill. The only downside is it only comes in Black.

Asprey GMT Duffle Bag – $3,950
Notes: Asprey is another long-standing British firm focusing on meticulous craftsmanship and quality. Their weekender features their European sourced “soft grain leather” which means they only source leather from cows aged between one and one and a half years old. The bag also features Ruthenium-finished hardware which is a bit less shiny than standard silver hardware. Asprey also produces some more interesting colors for their weekender such as Cranberry, and a Lapis Blue along with the pictured Silver Grey and a Carbon.

Dimensions: 9.8″ H x 17.5″ L x 7.7″ D
Leather Type: European soft grain leather

Metier Vagabond Duffle – $4,350
Notes: Metier is a relatively new player in leather goods but we like their ethos of, “being passionate about creating elegant solutions for modern problems” and “design at its core should solve a problem or improve what’s already out there” The Vagabond duffle does that in spades. We love the chocolate brown suede, and their side zipper pocket contains extra organizational features and the bag includes places for toiletries, sunglasses and a laptop. Classic look, functional design, suede is hard to beat (they have a non-suede and canvas as well), an alcantara interior for durability, brass hardware, and you have an excellent bag.

Buy From:
Ralph Lauren Saddle Calfskin Weekender – $4,500
Notes: Another Purple Label RL bag, but this time in Tuscan leather and lined with suede which is a first we’ve ever heard of and does a bit to justify the higher price. Overall another excellent classic bag from Ralph Lauren where the suede-lined interior really ups the quality and price compared to their other bags.

Berluti Jour Off GM Leather Travel Bag – $4,750
Notes: Berluti started off as a bespoke shoemaker 120 years ago and has since branched into other leather goods categories. Their trademark is their Venezia leather and their patina they add to their leather products to create unique items that are as much art as shoe or bag. This weekender bag is an excellent example of how much different of a leather look Berluti can create compared to a normal brown leather bag.
Details of Note:
Dimensions: 11.8″ H x 21.26″ L x 8.27″ D

Tom Ford Grain Leather Large Buckley Holdall – $4,990
Notes: Tom Ford has always created high quality pieces no matter what category, and this bag is no exception. The pebbled leather really separates it from other standard calf leather bags, especially in black, and the gold-plated brass hardware adds a nice bit of shine without going overboard into gaudy territory. Classic shape, high quality, Tom Ford seems to always prefer black to brown and thus this bag only comes in black.

Brunello Cucinelli Cowhide Country Weekender Bag – $4,995
Notes: Brunello Cucinelli started his business selling the highest quality cashmere sweaters on the market and has expanded his clothing empire from there. All his items are made in Solomeo, Italy and this bag shows the old-world craftsmanship and quality he is known for. The leather is a nice light brown with a matte finish, and with a flap closure unlike most of the weekender bags. The unique buckle/clasp is further testament to Cucinelli’s creativity and craftsmenship.
Details of Note:
Dimensions: 19.69″ H x 22.8″ L x 9.84″ D

Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Cabin Duffle – $5,900
Notes: Bottega Veneta’s “entry” level duffle bag comes in their signature “Intrecciato” leather weave. Generally I’m not a huge fan of this weave’s aesthetic, but I think it creates a nice differentiator comparer to all the other duffle bags on this list. Those who know the Intrecciato design will recognize it immediately, so if you want more of a “stealth wealth” look, this probably isn’t for you. Aside from the leather weave, the silver finished hardware and a canvas lining are nice additional touches.
Details of Note:
Dimensions: 11.4″ H x 21.7″ L x 9.45″ D

Valextra Boston Travel Bag – $5,950
Notes: Valextra has always been a low-key alternative to the other big leather houses, but all their products always have a classic but distinct style. Their duffle bag is no different, coming in their signature house “Millepunte” calf leather and a more modern/clean look than most traditional bags in this price range. The contemporary hardware matches this duffle bag’s overall aesthetic perfectly.
Details of Note:
Dimensions: 12.6″ H x 20.5″ L x 11.8″ D
Leather Type: Millepunte calf leather

Ralph Lauren Cooper Calfskin Duffle – $6,200
Notes: The final weekend duffle bag from Ralph Lauren Purple Label and it’s definitely unique. This is RL’s homage to “vintage English saddle carriers” and it looks the part. The straps and the lock really set this duffle bag apart from the rest of the pack, even if it’s probably a bit annoying to open and close. RL doesn’t skimp on the hardware either with polished palladium-finished brass hardware. This bag will make you stand out whether you like it or not, so keep that in mind.

Bottega Veneta Cabin Duffle – $8,700
Notes: Here is Bottega Veneta’s classic take on a weekend duffle and it hits all the right marks. The “weathered” leather shows a nice patina which gives it a bit of an understated sophisticated look comparted to a standard mid-brown leather duffle. I do think you’re paying a designer premium for this bag, but if you have the cash it is more “stealth wealth” than other Bottega Veneta’s leather products.
Details of Note:
Dimensions: 11.4″ H x 21.7″ L x 9.45″ D
Leather Type: Calfskin

Buy From:
Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandoulière 50 – $9,000
Notes: Louis Vuitton’s Millésime leather is featured in their premier weekender duffle bag. Millésime leather will be softer and more supple than the Taiga leather, but with that goes decreased durability. This bag is probably not ideal as an everyday duffle and more for if you only use a duffle bag occasionally and want the best of the best from Louis Vuitton. I am a little disappointed with the lack of detail on the description of the hardware which just says “Silver-color hardware”. For such a premium price, I would expect some semi-precious coating or just solid silver, but not the end of the world. This duffle isn’t geared towards someone looking for the highest price-to-value ratio they can find anyway.
Details of Note:
Dimensions: 11.4″ H x 19.7″ L x 9.1″ D
Leather Type: Millésime calf leather
Made In: France, Spain, Italy or in the US
